One of the things we learn in herbalism is the doctrine of signatures. The idea being that a plant looks like a part of the body that it can aid and support in healing. It’s a beautiful and simplistic idea that helps our brains connect some of the many tiny dots that hold this gigantic Universe together.
In a similar way, the colors of plants go some way to help us understand some of what plants are able to do. And there is nothing more eye catching than a warm yellow of goldenrod. I’ve heard it be called the bane of farmer’s lives and blamed for allergies, but the truth is it can relieve the usual dreaded allergy response to the real culprit: ragweed! And made into a hot tea, it will make a person sweat!
You don’t have to look for long to see these happy pollinators growing everywhere along roadsides in late September. Almost like they too are hailing the summer sun as we head into Fall and the changing of the seasons.
